Itinerary

An 8-day adventure through Rwanda and Uganda, combining gorilla and chimpanzee trekking, wildlife safaris, and cultural experiences, starting and ending in Kigali.

Day 1: Arrival at Kigali Airport
  • ·Afternoon/Evening – Arrival: Arrive at Kigali International Airport, complete visa processing, and meet your driver/guide. Transfer to hotel (15 min drive) in Kigali, a vibrant city known for its safety and post-1994 progress.
  • Overnight: Hotel des Mille Collines (4-star, D) – millecollines.rw
  • Meals: Dinner
Day 2: Transfer to Bwindi National Park
  • 09:00 AM – Departure: Breakfast, drive to Bwindi NP (Rushaga sector, Uganda) via Kyanika Border (30 min from Ruhengeri, requires East African Visa). Enjoy views of terraces and Lake Mutanda (3 hr total drive).
  • 03:00 PM – Batwa Trail: Check into the lodge, have lunch, then take a guided nature walk on the Batwa trail to learn about the indigenous Batwa Pygmy culture.
  • Overnight: Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge (FB)
  • Meals: Full Board
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi National Park
  • 07:00 AM – Trekking: Breakfast, head to Bwindi park headquarters for briefing (8:00 AM). Trek one of eight habituated gorilla groups (2-6 hr, 1 hr observation) with rangers. Afternoon at leisure.
  • Overnight: Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge
Day 4: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park via Ishasha
  • Morning – Departure: Breakfast, drive to Queen Elizabeth NP (6-7 hr) via Ishasha sector to spot tree-climbing lions. Continue to the Mweya sector, home to elephants, buffaloes, and over 600 bird species.

  • Meals: Full Board
Day 5: Game Drive & Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise
  • 06:30 AM – Game Drive: Early tea/coffee, game drive on Kasenyi trails for lions, hyenas, and elephants (3+ hr). Return for lunch.
  • Afternoon – Boat Cruise: Cruise on Kazinga Channel to see hippos, crocodiles, and birds.
  • Overnight: Buffalo Savannah Lodge
  • Meals: Full Board
Day 6: Transfer to Kibale National Park
  • 09:00 AM – Departure: Breakfast, drive to Kibale NP (4 hr) via Kasese, with a stop in Fort Portal (coffee/tea at own expense). Kibale is renowned for its primate-rich evergreen rainforest.
  • Overnight: Primate Lodge
Day 7: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale National Park
  • 07:00 AM – Trekking: Breakfast, briefing at park office, trek to locate habituated chimpanzee communities (1 hr observation). Afternoon at leisure or optional Bigodi Swamp visit.
  • Overnight: Primate Lodge
Day 8: Return to Kigali via Kampala
  • Morning – Departure: Breakfast, drive to Kigali via Kampala (5 hr). Stop at the Equator for photos and shopping. Drop-off at Entebbe Airport for outbound flight.
  • Meals: Breakfast
