Itinerary

A 5-day journey through Rwanda and Uganda, featuring two gorilla treks and cultural experiences, starting and ending in Kigali.

Day 1: Arrival at Kigali Airport
  • Afternoon/Evening – Arrival: Arrive at Kigali International Airport, complete visa processing, and meet your driver/guide. Transfer to hotel (15 min drive) in Kigali, known for its safety and post-1994 progress, famously depicted in Hotel Rwanda.
  • Overnight: Hotel des Mille Collines (4-star) – millecollines.rw

Day 2: Kigali City Tour & Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
  • Morning – City Tour: Breakfast, explore Kigali with visits to Kigali Genocide Memorial, Dr. Richard Kandt House Museum, Kimironko Giant Market, and Hotel des Mille Collines.
  • Afternoon – Transfer: Drive to Musanze near Volcanoes National Park (scenic route with coffee and banana plantations).
  • Overnight: Ingagi Park View Lodge

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
  • 06:30 AM – Trekking: Breakfast, head to Kinigi park headquarters for briefing (7:00 AM). Trek is one of eight habituated gorilla groups in Rwanda (2-6 hr, 1 hr observation) with rangers. Afternoon at leisure.
  • Overnight: Ingagi Park View Lodge
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi National Park
  • 09:00 AM – Departure: Breakfast, drive to Bwindi National Park (Uganda) via the Kyanika Border (30 minutes from Ruhengeri, requiring an East African Visa). Enjoy views of the Kisoro hills and Lake Mutanda (a 3-hour drive).
  • 03:00 PM – Batwa Trail: Check into the lodge, have lunch, then take a guided Batwa trail walk to learn about the Bakiga and Batwa Pygmy communities.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi National Park
  • 07:00 AM – Trekking: Breakfast, head to Bwindi park headquarters for briefing (8:00 AM). Trek one of eight habituated gorilla groups (2-6 hr, 1 hr observation) with rangers. Afternoon at leisure.
  • Overnight: Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 6: Transfer to Kigali
  • Morning – Departure: Breakfast, drive to Kigali (3 hr). Visit curio shops and the market for shopping before dropping off at Kigali International Airport for outbound flight.
