Itinerary

A 5-day journey through Rwanda’s Nyungwe National Park, featuring chimpanzee trekking, a canopy walk, and a waterfall hike, with cultural stops in Kigali, starting and ending in Kigali.

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
  • Afternoon/Evening – Arrival: Arrive at Kigali International Airport, meet your driver/guide for a brief, and transfer to the hotel (15 min drive) in Kigali, known for its post-1994 progress and safety.

Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park
  • 09:00 AM – City Tour & Transfer: Breakfast, enjoy a short Kigali city tour, including the Kigali Genocide Memorial to learn about Rwanda’s history. Drive to Nyungwe National Park (6 hr) via Kibuye, with a lunch stop (paid directly). Enjoy scenic views of rolling hills and plantations.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking & Canopy Walk
  • 05:30 AM – Chimpanzee Trek: Breakfast, drive to Nyungwe for chimpanzee trekking, tracking endangered Common Chimpanzees (~400 in Rwanda). Note: Chimp sightings are not guaranteed due to their unpredictable movements.
  • Afternoon – Canopy Walk: Lunch at lodge, then embark on the Igishigishigi trail canopy walk (90m above ground, ~4 hr) to observe primates, birds, and orchids.
  • Overnight: Nyungwe Top View Hill Hotel
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 4: Kamiranzovu Waterfall & Transfer to Kigali
  • Morning – Waterfall Hike: Breakfast, hike to Kamiranzovu waterfall (~4 hr), a significant Nile source, surrounded by 200+ tree species and 280+ bird species.
  • 01:00 PM – Transfer: Return to lodge, refresh, and drive to Kigali via Butare/Huye (5-6 hr). Check in and relax.

  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Day 5: Transfer to Kigali International Airport
  • Morning – Departure: Breakfast, pack, and transfer to Kigali International Airport (20 min drive). If flight is later, optional visit to art galleries, craft markets, or shopping.
