Itinerary

A 6-day journey through Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, featuring gorilla and Golden Monkey trekking, a Dian Fossey hike, and cultural experiences, starting and ending in Kigali.

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
  • Afternoon/Evening – Arrival: Arrive at Kigali International Airport, meet your driver/guide for a brief, and transfer to the hotel (15 min drive) in Kigali, known for its post-1994 progress and safety.

Day 2: Kigali City Tour & Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
  • 09:00 AM – City Tour: Breakfast, enjoy a Kigali city tour, including the Kigali Genocide Memorial to learn about Rwanda’s history and resilience.
  • Afternoon – Transfer: Drive to Volcanoes National Park (3 hr) through scenic rolling hills and coffee plantations. Check in and spend the afternoon at leisure.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
  • 06:30 AM – Trekking: Breakfast, head to Kinigi park headquarters for briefing (7:00 AM). Trek one of ten habituated gorilla groups (2-6 hr, 1 hr observation) with rangers, observing behaviors like feeding and play. Afternoon at leisure.
  • Overnight: Ingagi Park View Lodge

Day 4: Golden Monkey Trekking & Optional Afternoon Activities
  • 06:30 AM – Golden Monkey Trek: Breakfast, return to park headquarters for a Golden Monkey trek (1-2 hr), tracking endangered primates in the Virunga range.
  • Afternoon – Optional Activities: Lunch at lodge, then choose to visit Kinigi market (local produce and crafts), Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village, Twin Lakes (Burera & Ruhondo), a traditional healer, or a local school (guide will confirm options).
  • Overnight: Ingagi Park View Lodge

Day 5: Dian Fossey Grave Hike
  • 07:00 AM – Hike: Breakfast, head to the park ranger station to pick up a guide for a hike to Dian Fossey’s grave and research site between Mount Bisoke and Mount Karisimbi (2-3 hr each way, depending on fitness). Learn about Fossey’s legacy in gorilla conservation.
  • Overnight: Ingagi Park View Lodge
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 6: Transfer to Kigali
  • Morning – Departure: Breakfast, pack, and drive back to Kigali (3 hr). Drop-off at Kigali International Airport for the outbound flight.
